Reading Lists: Guide for Copyright Staff

Copy limit exceeded

This reason is commonly assigned when a digitization request exceeds fair dealing guidelines (e.g. two scanned chapters from a print book).

To process these requests in TADC

  1. Navigate to the digitization request in All requests. Click the three vertical dots under Actions

  2. Select View details. You might now see this Request Referred message on the left side of the screen:
    digitization exceeds copy limits
  3. Click Copyright Clearance Obtained to proceed with manually clearing rights
  4. Select the Source that provided the rights clearance from the drop-down menu:
drop-down menu to select source of copyright clearance
  5. Add an explanatory note in the Comment: field (required) and click Save.
    • For example: "Transactional license from the CCC."
  6. You may now see the message below. Click Accept and send to Packer.*
    upload a copyright coversheet
  7. You may now see this message:
    add coversheet to digitization
    Select either:
    • Choose File to add a coversheet created by you from the Langara Copyright Office template (e.g. for CCC requests) or provided by the rights holder to the digitization, OR;
    • Save to proceed without adding a coversheet.
      • Note: If you do not add a coversheet, the status of the request will change to "Awaiting manually supplied coversheet - referred" and the options from Step 7 will be displayed again. Use the Accept and send to Packer button to add a coversheet at a later date.

* Note: The Packer is a TADC tool that packages coversheets and digitizations together as bundles.
