Reading Lists: Guide for Copyright Staff

Overview of copyright functionality in Talis Aspire

Copyright Office staff interface with Reading Lists (Talis Aspire) in two ways:

  1. Review & Publish requests from instructors, and;
  2. Digitization requests (Talis Aspire Digitized Content, or TADC)

Review & Publish is an optional feature that allows instructors to request feedback on their reading lists from the Library/Copyright Office staff. The Copyright Technician is the 'first pass' for Review & Publish requests (akin to the review process for print coursepacks.) They can evaluate and provide feedback on a number of aspects of a reading list, including acquisitions, links, and copyright compliance.

Instructors raise digitization requests when they attach or request a scanned copy of a reading (e.g. a chapter from a print book or article from a print journal). Copyright Office staff review digitization requests for copyright compliance and facilitate fulfillment in collaboration with Borrower Services (for items in Langara Library's print collection) and interlibrary loan (for items Langara Library does not own).
