Reading Lists: Instructor Guide

This section guides instructors through a suggested workflow for creating a reading list and embedding it in Brightspace.

Reading Lists: Step-by-step

Request an account
  • Email readinglists@langara.ca to request a Reading Lists account.
  • You will receive an invitation from Talis Aspire. If you do not see an invitation, please check your spam or clutter folder. Once you click the link to accept the invitation, you will be taken to Langara Reading Lists.
Add the Bookmarking extension
  • Install the Bookmarking extension in your Internet browser (Google Chrome recommended). The extention allows you to add readings to your lists with a single click.
Create your reading list
  • Create your reading list.
    • Note: We recommend the following format for naming your list: Course Code + Course Number + Title of Course + (Instructor Surname). Example: ENGL 1123 Introduction to Academic Writing (Smith).
Assign a list owner
  • Assign a reading list owner.
  • Note: List ownership is not automatically applied when you create reading lists. You can assign ownership to yourself or another Langara reading lists user. Assigning yourself as list owner ensures you have full access to everything reading lists have to offer.
Organize your reading list
Add readings to your list
Publish your reading list
  • Publish your reading list
  • Note: If your list contains readings with Digitizations, Langara Library staff will be notified and will review the request. You will be contacted if the request cannot be fulfilled.
Add your reading list to Brightspace
  • Instructors can add reading lists to Brightspace to ensure easy access for students.
  • Add reading lists as a whole, section by section, or both.
  • List owners/publishers can edit readings within Brightspace. Updates made to reading lists are immediately reflected in Brightspace after a list has been re-published and the course page is refreshed.
