Reading Lists: Instructor Guide

Reading lists can be embedded in Brightspace in their entirety, and/or section by section. 

Embedding an entire reading list in Brightspace allows students to see all of the course readings at a glance and track their progress. Many instructors choose to create a separate Brightspace module entitled "Course Readings" or "Digital Coursepack" to house the reading list. 

Embedding sections of reading lists in Brightspace modules provides students with readings at point of need. This approach is useful when you want specific readings to accompany, or augment, other module content.

To embed an entire reading list in Brightspace: 

1. Login to your Brightspace course. 
2. Select Content under the Course Materials tab. 
3. Create a new module (or locate an existing module) in which to embed the reading list under Table of Contents on the left side of the screen.
   • Note: In the example below, we are embedding the reading list in a module entitled Digital Coursepack.
4. Click Existing Activities and select Reading Lists from the drop-down menu. 
   
5. Search for the reading list and select it from the predictive text.
6. Select Embed list.
   
7. Click on the title of the reading list to give it a more intuitive name. The default title is Talis Aspire - [Name of Reading List].

To embed a section of a reading list in a Brightspace module: 

1. Login to your Brightspace course. 
2. Select Content under the Course Materials tab. 
3. Navigate to the module in which you wish to embed the reading list section under Table of Contents on the left side of the screen.
4. Click Existing Activities and select Reading Lists from the drop-down menu. 
   
5. Search for the reading list and select it from the predictive text.
6. Click on Select section.
   
7. Select the section you wish to embed and click Embed section.
   
8. Click on the title of the reading list section to give it a more intuitive name. The default title is Talis Aspire - [Name of Section].
