Basic Format

Lastname, F. M. (YEAR, Month Day). Title of article. Title of Magazine, volume(issue if available). DOI or URL

Only include a URL if the article can be freely accessed online. Do not include a URL for newspaper articles accessed through a library database, e.g. Canadian Newsstand. 

The APA treats articles on news websites (such as CBC News, BBC News, HuffPost, etc.) as webpages (Publication manual, 2020, p. 351). Please see the webpages section of this guide for format.

In contrast, articles from online newspapers with corresponding print publications (such as the Vancouver Sun) are cited as articles in a periodical (Publication manual, 2020, p.320).

When there is no author, start the in-text citation with the first few words of the article title and capitalize the article title using title case (even though sentence case is used in the reference list entry). (Publication manual, 2020, p.265)
