Are you planning a college event?
Educational exceptions in the Copyright Act allow public performances of sound recordings (music) and media (DVDs, streaming films) on campus for educational purposes.
Playing music and videos at non-educational college events (ie. Welcome Week, fundraisers, film festivals, club events) may be possible if the rights were purchased by Langara or negotiated for the specific use.
To arrange permissions for an event, or to find out if a particular musical work or feature film is covered by a license, contact the Copyright Office.
Note: The Student Union Building is a separate organization from Langara College and is not included in College licenses.
