If I recently used a Kanopy video do I still have access to it now?
There is no guarantee that you still have access as you may have viewed it in one of the three free plays before the library licenses the film, or the license may have expired. It is best to check the availability of all videos you plan to use. Prior to May 1, 2019 please do this by emailing media.acquisitions@langara.ca and we can confirm licensing for you. After May 1, 2019 you can check yourself by searching for videos on the Kanopy site and filling out request forms if needed.
When should I submit a request for a Kanopy video?
For instructors, please try to submit requests as soon as you know you will be assigning a video, preferably before the beginning of the term. This gives the library time to approve your request and license the video, and can also ensure there are funds available in the media budget.
Why do instructors need to provide a date for when the video is needed?
In order to make best use of our funds we will try to license the video as close to the date you need it as possible. That way, the video will be available for a year from that date, rather than licensing it weeks or months before it will actually be used.
How long will it take for the library to respond to a request?
In most cases the media librarian will be able to respond within 3-5 working days.
How will I know if my request has been approved or declined?
You will receive an email from the media librarian either way.
Why was my request declined?
Approval is based on our collection development selection criteria, with relevance to curriculum being the highest priority. Purchasing films for casual viewing is not feasible in the library budget.
What if I need the video tomorrow?
The library cannot guarantee that access or funds will be available with such a short turn around time.
