Welcome to the LibGuide for ABST 1100! This guide highlights important resources for ABST 1100, with special attention to research requirements for the Research Project.
This project asks you to explore relations between First Nations and a specific group of immigrants in British Columbia. For example: relations between Chinese market gardeners and Musqueam First Nation, immigrant women and Indigenous women in the cannery business, etc.
Begin by finding at least two peer-reviewed journal articles related to your topic. You can include additional academic sources (for example, book chapters) if you wish. Provide an annotation for each of your sources that summarizes its main points.
Sythesize your sources in: (1) an essay (minimum 3 pages double-spaced), OR (2) a podcast (minimum 8 minutes long). If you choose the essay option, indicate your thesis statement in bold text. If you choose the podcast option, submit a script.
Remember: this project is not simply a description of the topic. You must apply your own analysis/ideas to the issue, and make connections to concepts learned in class.
Aspects to consider when working on your reflection topic:
Cite your sources according to APA style for both in-text citations and the References page.
This research workshop walks you through the process of finding sources and preparing citations for the ABST 1100 research project.
