POLI 1160 - Contemporary Ideologies (Parajulee)

Searching the Catalogue

To find books, ebooks, and videos that might help you with your paper, you can use the Books and Media or the Quick Topic Search.

As of Fall 2021, the library is now open and available for students to collect print materials in person.

  • On campus pick up of print books and DVDs
Library print material borrowing has resumed as per usual. Find a book on the shelves using the call number and bring the book down to the check out desk to borrow.
  • A digital scan of a book chapter or a journal article
While print materials are now available via self-service, we will continue to offer digital scanning. Under Canadian Copyright an entire book CANNOT be digitized. Requests for more than one chapter, one article, or 10% of an item will be automatically cancelled. Requests for different chapters within the same item sent as multiple requests will also be cancelled. The scanned document will be emailed to you. Please complete the online scan request form.

When using the Quick Topic Search, your keyword search will return books, ebooks, DVDs, streaming video, journal articles from academic publications, articles from non-academic publications, and a host of other materials.

Advanced Search

If you are looking specifically for books, using the Books and Media search (also called the library catalogue) may return more relevant results more quickly.

Don't be afraid to use books in your research papers. Instructors do not expect students to read a whole book when writing short research papers. Read enough of the book to get context (a chapter or two is usually fine), but don't waste time reading what is irrelevant.Books still contain great analysis and information and should not be easily discounted from the research process.

Finding related material

If you find one book that is useful, look at its record in the catalogue to see if we have more books on similar topics. In the Subjects area of the record, the links will take you to other books that have that been given that subject heading.

You can also look for books on themes, historical and social events related to your topic by searching for the specific topic. Again, you can try the Subject starts with option to do some searching. Look at your topic below for suggestions.
