ABST 1116: Aboriginal Women in Canada (Miranda-Barrios)

Introduction

Welcome to the LibGuide for ABST 1116! This guide highlights important resources for ABST 1116, with special attention to research requirements for the research project. It is supplemented by a recorded research workshop posted to Langara MediaSpace.

Research Project: Overview

You are are asked to produce a final research project on a topic of your choosing that relates to an Indigenous Woman in what is known today as Canada, or an organization led by Indigenous Women.

The research project aims to highlight contributions made by Indigenous Women in any field. You are tasked with choosing an Indigenous Woman who may have been portrayed in the media or not (a singer, artist, scientist, scholar, political figure, etc.) Using themes from the course, explore how this Indigenous Woman is represented and/or represents herself and how she relates to the de-colonial project.

This is a research project and should include at least three academic sources (scholarly books, peer-reviewed academic articles). You are allowed to use any readings from class. Cite your sources in APA style. See the Citing Your Sources page for details.

This final research project can be presented as the student chooses to (e.g. audio (podcast) or written (essay)). If you choose to produce a podcast, you will still need to submit a page with APA style references.
