POLI 1100 - Introduction to Government Politics (Prosperi)

Briefing Notes

For your written assignments in this class, you are expected to produce two briefing notes that examine issues in Canadian politics. These briefing notes are no longer than 2 pages single spaced and follow the format outlined in your assignment description.

In each note, you are expected to interact with a minimum of two sources that help guide your explanation and analysis. With these sources, you must consult academic journals, books or ebooks, or publications from government or non-governmental organizations that you deem to be acceptable and appropriate for your paper. Popular media sources, like newspapers and magazines, or online reference sources, like Wikipedia, are to be avoided for this project.

For your notes, you will have two topics:

  • Electoral reform in Canada - Should we keep our existing electoral system or should we adopt a new one?
  • An issue of your choice.

This guide will provide you with advice and suggestions about where to look for appropriate sources. If you are struggling with your research, please don't hesitate to reach out to our library services or to me directly.
