DASH 1199 - Directions in Applied Social Sciences and Humanities

Assignment Description

Your deliverable at the end of this term is a statement of intent that imagines that the Canadian Government has marked funds for scholarships to support the undertaking of (undergraduate) interdisciplinary studies to help address a social problem of your choice. They require applicants to write a statement of intent that answers a number of questions about your social problem, the disciplines that are involved in solving that problem, and how that undertaking might begin.

Solutions that you explore to the social issue you are examining should be grounded in research, particularly those from scholarly sources. Think of the statement of intent like a math problem - you have to come up with a solution, but you also have to show your work. In this case, your work is the information that you have gathered and synthesized in order to propose your solution.

This guide is meant to help provide you with strategies and recommendations that will help you find scholarly sources.

If you need more help with your research, don't hesitate to reach out to the library!
