General Information

Library Hours

The Library space is currently closed to the public. A reduced number of library staff are on site during the following times, and can be contacted at 604.323.5462:

Monday - Friday 8am-6pm
Saturday 11am - 6pm

Accessing Library Materials

While public access to the Library's physical collection remains closed, you can request:
  • On campus pick up of print books and DVDs 
    To ensure campus safety, please do not come until you receive email confirmation that your items are ready for pick up. This service is available Monday-Friday 8am-6pm and Saturday 11am-6pm. Please complete the online book request form.
  • A digital scan of a book chapter or a journal article
    Under Canadian Copyright an entire book CANNOT be digitized. Requests for more than one chapter, one article, or 10% of an item will be automatically cancelled. Requests for different chapters within the same item sent as multiple requests will also be cancelled. The scanned document will be emailed to you. Please complete the online scan request form.
Items returned to the Library are quarantined for 24 hours before being made available again. Covers of items are also disinfected.
You can request print textbooks for pickup at the Library using the online book request form. Please check the library catalogue for your textbook before requesting pickup as we don't have all textbooks available at the Library. Note that textbooks are usually kept in the Library's Reserve section, which have shorter loan periods that are still in effect.
To return items, there is a Book Return slot open 24/7 outside A Langara student returns a book using the Library's outdoor book drop.on the southwest entrance of the L building. You do not have to come inside to the Library.
Regular late fees are in effect for physical items checked out after May 4, 2020. Payment of late fees must be done in-person at the Library, by debit or cash. If you have questions about late fees, please contact Borrower Services by email circulation@langara.ca or by phone 604-323-5462.
Library databases, e-book collections, and streaming video collections can be accessed remotely using your Screen capture of the filters found on the Library's Quick Topic Search. The "eBooks Only" filter is highlighted.Langara ID and password.
Recently, the Library added a new filter to its Quick Topic Search (the search bar on the Library home page) to make finding e-books easier. After searching, you can select “eBooks Only” from the list of filters on the results page.

Accessing Library Support Services

The Library’s Research Help Desk is currently closed, but you can access research help via:
The Writing Centre’s physical space is closed, but writing help is still available online via:
  • live sessions with a tutor on WConline
  • online submissions for feedback on Writeway

Subject tutoring is available online. To meet with a tutor, register for an account to log into WConline for Subject Tutoring. Note that this is separate from Writing Centre’s Service and you will need to create a new account. Check the Subject Tutoring website for details and schedule.
Interlibrary Loan service is currently limited to digital items only: journal articles and book chapters. Physical book requests are not being processed at this time.

Accessing Library Spaces

While the Library is closed for studying, the following study spaces are open within the L-building. See campus website for hours.
  • Silent Study Room, 2nd floor, access from L-building corridor outside the Library space
  • Computer Labs L103, L104, L108, L109
Computer Labs L103, L104, L108 and L109 are available in the L-building. All computer labs are accessible from the main corridor in L-building. See campus website for hours.

Printers
There is a colour and black & white printer in the L Building between the L103 & L104 computer labs. There is a MAC printer in the A Building MAC Lab - A110.
Printing Charges
Printing charges for students were reinstated as of August 24, 2020. You can pay for printing credit at the Library. Debit is preferred, though cash (exact change) is accepted. More info on campus printing.
