Citing AI-generated content

Always check with your instructor before using AI-generated content in an assignment.

Be aware that AI-generated information can be false, biased or outdated, and it is necessary to check the accuracy of any information accessed through generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot.

Citing AI-generated Images

Basic Format

"Text of prompt" prompt. Name of AI Tool, version number if known, Name of company that made the tool, Day Month Year content was generated, General URL of Tool.

Works Cited 

"Post-secondary education and the impact of generative AI tools" prompt. ChatGPT, 15 September 2025, chatgpt.com.

Basic Format

"Text of prompt" prompt. Name of AI Tool, version number if known, Name of company that made the tool, Day Month Year content was generated, URL of Tool

There is no need to repeat the citation in the Works Cited if the source is cited directly below each image included. Refer to the artwork by figure number in the body of the essay.
