Citing Images in MLA Style
- When including an image in your paper in MLA style, you must include:
- a figure note below the image that gives the image details
- Only include a full bibliographic entry in your Works Cited page if you mention the image in the body of your paper
Example
In the photo Kettle Valley Rail Trail (Medig), two tourists enjoy one of the region's most lucrative attractions - the vineyards of the Kettle Valley Trail.

Fig. 1. Kari Medig; "Kettle Valley Rail Trail"; HelloBC Image Gallery; https://www.hellobc.com/media/images/; photograph.
**NOTE** Because there is no date associated directly with the image, this figure note will not include one. If you know the date of the photograph, image, or piece of art, include it after the "Container" designation - the website where the photo comes from.
In the Works Cited:
Medig, Kari. "Kettle Valley Rail Trail." HelloBC Image Gallery, https://www.hellobc.com/media/images/. Accessed 6 Feb. 2023.
