Citing Images in APA Style
- When including an image in your paper you must include:
- a note beneath the image that gives an image credit
- and a full bibliographic entry in your Reference List
- To reference an image, follow these steps:
- Above the image, write "Figure" in bold font, flush left, followed by the number
- Write the image title using italic case below the image number
- Double space the image number and title
- Embed the image
- Below the image, on a new line, place "Note."
- Provide extra details or explanation if necessary
- State if the material is reprinted or adapted - use "From" if reprinted or "Adapted From" if adapted (you will most likely use "From")
- Follow with the copyright attribution (basically the same information from your references page but in a different order)
- Separate image from the text with one blank double-spaced line
- Create a full reference to the image in your References page
- Placement of your image should be:
- Either embedded in the text after it has been mentioned or on a separate page after the reference list (as an appendix)
- Aligned with left margin
