Embedding Library Content Into Brightspace

Adding Library content to Brightspace

In any module in your course you can add entire library guides, single pages, or even a content box. You can add library guides/pages into multiple modules – there are guides on citation and other non course-specific topics that might be helpful at different stages of your course.

Step 1 - From your module, select Existing Activities

Step 2 - From the dropdown, select External Learning Tools

Step 3 - Select Library Guides

Step 4 - The Library Guide external learning tool has now been added. In order to choose the library guide for your course, click on the Library Guides link.

Note: This is what the student will see in their module, and they will be able to click on the link to see the assignment guide for your course. They will not leave Brightspace to view the library content, but the links and search boxes in the guides open in new windows.

Step 5 - LibGuides Site: Select Research Guides. It should be the only option

Step 6 - Content Type: Choose whether you want a full guide or a single page of a guide, or a content box. If you aren't sure, then add the full guide. If you are adding a tutoring schedule, you can add just the box.

Step 7 - Guide: The drop down menu shows an alphabetical list of assignment guides. You can scroll down until you see your class guide, or you can start typing to filter the list. Guides are usually named using the course code.

Step 8 (Optional) - You can select which page of the guide you want for a landing page, or you can click on Embed Content and the link will open on the first page of the guide.

Step 9 - Preview the content. If you want to look at what the students will see when they click the link you can can click on the Library Guides link, but as the instructor for your course, you will have to go through the additional step of clicking on View Content. The students will go immediately to the library guide when they click on the link.

Step 10 (OPTIONAL but recommended) - You can change the title of the embedded content to something more descriptive than the default “Library Guides”. Telling the students what they will find when they click on the link will help with accessibility for everyone.

a) Click on the small down arrow beside the Library Guides Link and from the drop-down menu select   Edit Properties in Place

b) Then click on the Library Guides title and type in something descriptive about the type of content you have embedded. It can be fairly long and should make it clear to the students what they will find when they click on the link

c) Then Click anywhere outside the text box and the new title should save automatically. Refresh the page to see how it will look to the students
