This guide describes the online tutorials offered through Brightspace by D2L, how to access them, and FAQs for students and faculty.

Avoiding Plagiarism Content and Learning Outcomes

The Avoiding Plagiarism tutorial defines plagiarism and introduces students to the concepts behind proper citation practices. It is designed to be completed in about 30 minutes. It consists of a series of videos that include interviews with Langara faculty that describe experiences with and consequences of plagiarism.

By the end of the tutorial, students should be able to

  • define plagiarism
  • recognize plagiarism in their own work and others’ work
  • identify the three main citation styles used at Langara College
  • cite their sources in-text and in their bibliography/references/works cited page
  • integrate sources into papers using quotations and paraphrasing
  • understand the consequences of plagiarism at Langara College.

The tutorial contains five modules:

  1. Plagiarism defined
  2. Citing your sources
  3. Writing your paper
  4. Langara's Code of Academic Conduct
  5. Finding help when you need it

Comprehension is tested using four quizzes at the end of modules 1, 2, 3, and 5. These quizzes add up to a mark out of ten.
