Design tips
This is a summary of best practice tips from Libguides/Research guides literature
Inform your users
- First page of the guide should inform the user what it's for and what's in it
- Be descriptive with hyperlinked text - also important for accessibility
Less is more
- Keep the majority of your content on each page "above the fold" to avoid scrolling
- Users typically scan web pages to find what they need rather than reading in detail
- Keep your navigation menu short if possible
Think mobile
- The bootstrap framework means that the columns stack left to right. Keep the most important information on the left or center
- Make embedded videos responsive
- Profile boxes under the navigation menu will stack on top of everything else
