Finding Scholarly Journal Articles

The library's Quick Topic Search (on the library homepage) will return a number of different kinds of resources including peer reviewed journal articles, newspaper articles, and magazine articles. It can be a great place to start your research. However, the Quick Topic Search does not cover all of Langara's databases. Additionally, it is highly multidisciplinary, so it may also return a number of irrelevant results. You may need to search in individual scholarly databases to find the most relevant research.

Recommended Databases and Search Tips

Two easy ways to limit your search:

  • Peer reviewed articles: Many databases allow you to narrow your search to peer reviewed or academic articles. Look for a “Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals” tickbox to restrict your results to academic sources.

  • Date: You can also limit by date using the publication date slider bar in Academic Search Premier and the “Date Range” boxes in JSTOR (on the search page, or click “Modify Search” on the results page).
